Welcome to the Walden
WLST is a competitive swim program for boys and girls, ages 4 – 18. We are primarily a developmental team, emphasizing stroke improvement and competitive swimming skills. We also strive to provide a more challenging program for advanced swimmers. Through practice and team participation, swimmers work toward mastering the four competitive strokes. The strokes used in competition are: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. The major emphasis is on skill development, team participation, building self-confidence and self discipline in a fun, friendly and family oriented environment.
We participate in the Private Club League (PCL) and possibly some additional meets with local non PCL clubs. The PCL emphasizes a developmental experience for swimmers. All swimmers are highly encouraged to participate in the scheduled dual swim meets, however participation is not mandatory. In addition to dual meets, there are also larger meets that include teams from all over our swim area. Officials are present at these meets to ensure that swimmers adhere to the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations. Not complying with the rules at these more serious meets could result in a disqualification. All team members are welcome to attend, but due to the strict rules which are enforced, we typically send our more experienced swimmers. The coaches will be available for you to talk to and meet with to determine if your son/daughter should attend these larger meets.
We are a team of parent volunteers that are dedicated to making the team experience rewarding for our swimmers. It is only with the help of parent volunteers, that we can guarantee a successful season. Please be available to volunteer and assist as needed throughout the season. Events such as our home meets will require several volunteers.
Board members are always available to answer any of your questions or address any of your concerns.
